DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Rachel Sandretto\nWPTA-Approved for 12 Contact hours.\nPrerequisites:  Proficiency in elements taught in Course One (formerly Levels 1-2) \nRegister for this Course (link) \nCourse Description: Teaches all elements required for TCF Level Three Certification. Participants learn Parts 2 and 3 of the TCF Form and review all Basic Moves. Includes teaching practicums\, techniques for using TCF with specific populations\, advanced training in sensing qi and introduction to Energize exercises. \n\n\n\nThe course includes presentations by certified instructors on program applications in group wellness settings as well as therapeutic assessment and intervention tools. This course qualifies as partial contact hours fulfillment for TCF Instructor Certification Level Three. \nThe Tai Chi Fundamentals® Program (TCF) provides gateway  to a Yang Style lineage tai chi form\, and  a bridge between tai chi practice and the medical model. The first program of its kind\, it provides a clear\, systematic approach for mastering tai chi basics that builds from simple to complex patterns of movement. Integrates mind/body components of tai chi with clinical overview\, movement analysis\, therapeutic & functional applications. \n\n\nProgram Elements: movements are taught in a motor development progression and can be modified for use with walkers and wheelchairs. Includes: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBasic Moves: graded sequence of exercises that reinforce functional movements of tai chi form\, and include basic elements of Qi Gong training. They have applications both as assessment and intervention tools.\nFundamentals Form: sequence of simple to more complex movements of modified Yang Style Tai Chi.\nMind/Body Skills: fostering mind/body integration\, effective movement and sense of well-being.\n\n\n\n\n\nDevelopment: in 1996 by Tricia Yu\, MA and Jill Johnson\, MS\, PT\, targeting elements from traditional tai chi that enhance balance\, coordination\, strength and endurance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe TCF Program has been featured in: PT Journal\, Journal of Rehab Management\, The Gerontologist\, APTA’s GeriNotes\, Medline Plus\, Topics in Geriatric Rehabilitation. DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Rachel Sandretto \nPrerequisite: Certification in the Tai Chi Fundamentals® Adapted Program (TCFA)\nQualifies participants for certification as Tai Chi Prime Leaders \nThis training will be conducted remotely over Zoom. \nRegister for this Course (link) \nCourse Description: Prepares certified TCFA instructors to become leaders for the 6-week\, twice-per-week\, evidence-based Tai Chi Prime class series featuring instruction in the TCFA Program\, Optional Side Support version and home practice coaching. Review and teach the Basic Moves\, TCF Short Form\, Mind/body skills and Everyday Qi Gong. Receive training in home practice coaching and leading group discussions. \nObjectives \n1. Teach and adapt Basic Moves\, TCF Short Form and Everyday Qi Gong.\n2. Discuss published research on Tai Chi Prime as an evidence-based class.\n3. Facilitate group home practice planning and coaching activities\n4. Lead and manage group discussions effectively.\n5. Teach the evidence-based Tai Chi Prime classes. \nApplications \nTai Chi Prime classes can be taught through health care community outreach and other community-based wellness classes\, VA settings\, senior centers\, health clubs and assisted living. For: wellness\, balance\, pain management\, MS\, Parkinson’s\, conditions\, neurological and autoimmune conditions\, cancer\, PTSD\, TBI\, and cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. \n Development Supported by: Grants from the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research at University of Wisconsin-Madison\, 2015-19. \n
